   摘  要  中山大学的黄重言教授是新中国成立以来我国华侨史研究和东南亚史研究的奠基人之一。他自幼成长于侨乡，亲眼目睹了20世纪30、40年代发生在开平侨乡的许多事情，对侨乡的人文历史风貌有着鲜明的记忆。1954年留校任教后，他主攻近代亚洲史尤其是东南亚史的教学，同时还在华侨史研究、侨乡研究以及有关东南亚各国古籍资料汇编方面做出了突出贡献。同时，他也培养了许多从事东南亚研究和华侨华人研究的年轻人才，奠定了中山大学在这一领域的发展基础，也在学术界和社会各界赢得了声誉。

   Abstract: Professor Huang Zhongyan, a retired professor from Sun Yat-sen University, is one of the founding father of the research of Overseas Chinese and the history of Southeast Asia since 1949 in China. He was rising in Kaiping, a small city which is famous for the great amount of Overseas Chinese people all over the world. He witnessed anything happened in Kaiping from 1930 to 1949.He also know the historical style and features of Kaiping very well. He was employed by Sun Yat-sen University in 1954 after he get a Bachelor's degree. Since 1954, he was responsible for having a class about  the history of Asian countries, especially, the history of Southeast Asia. At the same time, he did a good job in the researching area of Overseas Chinese ,the home villages of Overseas Chinese and the collection of so much information from classical books. So many young scholars are his students.
