中美关系框架下的“契纸儿女”叙事

摘要：本文从历史语境和中美关系入手对自排华时期到21世纪的“契纸儿女”叙事在美国的缺失和骤热现象进行梳理，发现从《排华法案》以来到20世纪60年代中期“华人坦白计划”结束时几乎找不到任何关于“契纸儿女”的叙事。70年代到90年代，随着中美关系正常化，“契纸儿女”叙事开始零星出现。21世纪以来，随着中国国际地位大大提升，“契纸儿女”叙事在美国社会出现骤热势头，由“契纸儿女”的后裔及白人作家所创作的各种文学、文化形式都对“契纸儿女”形象进行塑造。本文主张，“契纸儿女”叙事在美国社会的不同呈现是不同历史时期中美关系的风向标。

Paper Children Narratives in the Framework of Sino-U. S. Relation

Abstract：This article synthesizes paper children narratives in historical context and different stages of Sino-U. S. relation and demonstrates that the narratives’ absence or sudden popularity in different time periods is the wind indicator of Sino-U. S. relation. From the Exclusion Era to the late 1960s when the Chinese Confession Program ended，no paper children narratives were found. From the 1970s to the 1990s，paper children narratives sporadically appeared，but starting from 2000，paper children immigration became a focus in U. S. mainstream society，in which various types of narratives have appeared. The authors of these narratives vary from paper children themselves and their descendants to white， middle-class writers. Due to their different racial，classed，and cultural backgrounds，these authors show different attitudes towards paper children immigration and immigrants.
