《察世俗每月统记传》《东西洋考每月统记传》最后三期之发现

摘要：1815年，英国伦敦布道会传教士米怜在今天马来西亚的古城马六甲创办了世界第一份中文杂志——《察世俗每月统记传》。18年后，1833年，普鲁士籍独立新教传教士郭实猎在广州创办了中国境内第一份中文杂志——《东西洋考每月统记传》。在马来西亚、新加坡以及中国中文报刊史和中西文化交流史上，这两份月刊均有极其重要的地位。目前学术界对它们的研究成果十分丰富。对于它们的创刊日期，学者据创刊号原件所记，均有共识；但有关它们的终刊日期，几十年来，由于学者一直没能在欧美图书馆寻得它们的终刊号，因此唯有根据一些蛛丝马迹，旁敲侧击，推断出各种各样的说法，莫衷一是。笔者近年在荷兰莱顿大学东亚图书馆及美国费城美国哲学学会图书馆查阅资料时，偶然发现这两份报刊停刊前的最后三期原件，就此确定它们的终刊日期，揭开了100多年来学术界一直在寻找的谜底。

Rediscoveries of the Last Three Issues of Chashisu meiyue tongjizhuan

（Chinese Monthly Magazine）and Dongxi yang kao meiyue tongjizhuan （Eastern Wester-n Monthly Magazine）

Abstract：In 1815 Rev. William Milne of London Missionary Society founded the Chashisu meiyue tongjizhuan （Chinese Monthly Magazine）in Malacca. Eighteen years later，in the summer of 1833，patterned after the former，a German Lutheran missionary Karl F. A. Gützlaff produced the Dongxi yang kao meiyue tongjizhuan（Eastern Western Monthly Magazine）at Canton，China . Both periodicals occupy important places in the history of Sino-Western cultural exchange. Scholars have written hundreds of essays about their editors，numbers of volume printed and distribution network，etc. Yet，to our surprise，various dates of ceased publication have been offered. Based on the rediscoveries of the last three issues of both periodicals in the libraries of Leiden University and American Philosophical Society respectively，we now know for sure that the former ceased publication in March-April 1822 and the later in January-February 1839.
